3 weeks after hook-up - Talking to my kid in the car

Hi there! It's been 3 weeks since activation and I noticed today that I can understand my 5 year old daughter much better.  Kids have high pitched voices and at first it was really hard to understand that high pitched voice unless I read her lips.

In the car on our way to a restaurant tonight with Carmen in the back seat in her booster, I joined in the conversation that Kevin and Carmen were having about which restaurant to go. I didn't have to turn around to read her lips anymore. I could understand most of what she was saying and of course, like any other little kid, she wanted "Micky D's". Kevin and I convinced her to go to Red Lobsters, whew! We sold her on the popcorn shrimp!

Back to my point, it was so neat to be able to talk to my daughter behind my back. I have never been able to carry a conversation behind my back in my life!! It was awesome! It's a blessing to be able to have the technology that Cochlear provides to be able to hear beyond my wlldest dreams! I never imagined I would be able to hear what I'm hearing now. I'm so blessed!

I feel like a "new" me! I feel like the "Bionic Woman". Remember that 80's TV show? I can hear everything!! Now if only I can run that fast!!

Carla, That's so wonderful . . . Having both sides implanted at once must make a really huge difference, and you seem to be adjusting remarkably well . . . and hearing remarkably well. Congrats! Take care, Linda

I have a 9 yr old daughter who talks very fast and has a high pitch voice. I usually have to wait until the car is stopped to turn the rearview mirror down so I can read her lips. I know I used to be able to hear her before my hearing loss, but can't even remember what it was like. That is definitely a goal of mine. Your experience is definitely a blessing and very encouraging! Kecia
