Some good news to share

Hi Everyone!

I have been reading your posts and sounds like most everyone has had a good summer.  I can hardly believe it has gone by so fast.

Mostly I have been just plugging away at everyday life and am enjoying being back in the ranks of the hearing world. Even though it is not always ideal, it is still so much better than where I was 2 years ago.

At work I have had to be on the phone quite a bit. I am a lead in a call center and one of my responsibilities is calling back escalated customers. At first I was very apprehensive about this, but have become more comfortable as the weeks have gone on. My audi was just amazed that I was actually calling people I didn't know, and conversing with them. Last week we had an "all hands on deck" day where I was taking calls all day long. I was way out of my comfort zone but at the end of the day I felt really good about what I had accomplished. For once I was the same as everyone else and wasn't treated differently because of my hearing loss.

OK - On to the good news - I have decided to go bilateral. I put in the paper work in early June and just got the approval this week. My surgery date is scheduled for September 30th. Laughing

My first CI surgery was a piece of cake, and I am hoping for the same the 2nd time around. Since I have had some balance issues this year I'm a little worried that recovery might not be so swift, but it is a chance I am willing to take. I did some vestibular and neurologic testing earlier this summer. My surgeon said all the results point to the left ear is the one giving me the problems, so he was OK going ahead with the surgery My right ear is still strong enough to support me, balance wise. He also told me that during surgery on my left ear, he can take a better look in there to see what might be causing my balance issues.

I should clarify. I have not had any vertigo spells since January. I don't even feel dizzy any more. What I do feel, sometimes, is that I am in motion, like I am on a moving boat or something. That feeling just comes and goes on certain days.

Any way, I am very excited to be joining the ranks of the bi-ci folks out there. I feel very prepared for my journey, since you all have so graciously shared your stories with me.

Thanks y'all!

This is GREAT news!! I am so happy to learn that you are doing so well with the phone -- I mean WOW! Not many CI recipients are willing to have a job that entails primarily talking on the phone. So I REALLY admire you on this. Also, congratulations on your decision to go bilateral as well as having your surgery date scheduled! I can't wait to read your future blog posts about your bilateral journey!!

Hey Deb, so excited to hear the bilateral news! And congrats on your phone experience. Why don't you share with everyone about the equipment you are using on the phone...(if you are still using the ClearSounds adapter) I think we all want to have success on the phone and not everyone is familiar with some of the equipment that is available. I have your surgery date on the calendar and will be saying an extra prayer for you that day! Big hugs from Houston! Paula
