Post Surgery (10 days) Update

March 15, 2010
posted by  Debbie M. - Cochlear Ambassador (PA)

I went back to work last week on Wednesday for part of the day and Thursday and Friday all day. I took it easy. Didn't have to walk around at all and thank goodness, I could slide between two computers on with my desk chair!

The lightheadedness went away over the weekend and the only complaint I have about the post surgery side-effects is the loss of taste in my mouth. I didn't have that the first time around and am wondering how long it would be before it gets back to normal. The weird thing, it's only on the left side of my tongue (the side I had the CI put in).

Activation date for CI# 2 is March 29th. It'll be here before I know it!

Debbie, after my first surgery everything sweet tasted sour and bad. This lasted for almost 5 months but is gone now. After the second surgery I had no taste disturbances at all. Shelley

I had surgery on 11/23 and lost all taste. I actually lost about 15 pounds over the next 3 weeks of recovery due to losing the enjoyment of! After about 6 weeks or so, the taste started to come back but I still don't have complete recovery of that yet. Some things still don't taste right and I think it's slowly coming back. Be patient and I hope everything else goes well with you. Good luck on your 2nd activation!
