I lost the hearing in my right ear back in the 1980's. It was hard talking to people so I started looking for other ways to communicate and wound up teaching myself to play the banjo and later on the guitar. In music the vocabulary is so limited (there are only twelve notes) that I could find ways to express myself and work around the stuff I couldn't hear.
I had such a wild time learning my craft that I decided to make an effort to help other people make music. Nowadays my "day job" involves teaching music over the Internet to folks all over the world.
Over the last few year the hearing in my left ear has been failing. I am scheduled to have a baha implant installed this coming week.
The doctors at Johns Hopkins let me try a test unit with my guitar - and it was the first time I could really hear my guitar in ages. I can't wait to see - and hear - what happens one the unit is activated!
