My Story
Hello! I was diagnosed with my hearing loss at the age of two and struggled with hearing aids for most of my life.  I received my first cochlear implant (Freedom) in August 2005.  I LOVED the improved hearing and increased self confidence that I gained with my new "ear."  I went ahead and had my other ear implanted in January 2007.  After having several episodes with balance and extreme vertigo, I was formally diagnosed with Meniere's Disease in January 2009.  Looking back 30+ years, I can remember times when my vertigo and balance issues were diagnosed as something else (inner ear infection, etc.)  I seem to have a mild case but it rears its ugly head at the most inconvenient times.  I have what my doctor's nurse calls "drop attacks." As long as I manage my sodium and take a diuretic, I am able to keep it under control.  Being able to hear bilaterally has given me great joy to my life, family, friends, and career.  As a wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, when not spending time with my family, I love to travel, walk my dog, read, knit, and listen to music with my iPod.  I also volunteer on several different organizations that reach out to the deaf and hard of hearing.
