Sounds of nature

Springtime in Atlanta is beautiful between the sneezes Smile

Some tiny, brown birds built a nest in my note basket by the front door, and I'm amazed at their resourcefulness and tenacity. Darn it, I wish they would lay some eggs! I wanna see their babies and watch them grow and fly.

I'm thinking today of all the wonderful sounds of nature that the cochlear implant has given back to me. I saved them in my auditory memory for about 25 years, and I felt like Rip Van Winkle when my sense of hearing was awakened.

I wish that everyone could hear the birds chirping at dawn, crickets and frogs singing together in harmony at dusk, creek water tripping over smooth stones in the woods, ocean waves washing away their footprints in the sand, wind rustling the leaves in a tree before a storm, spring rain hitting their umbrella as they run from the car to the store, thunder chasing the lightning, and geese squawking in formation...the first time I heard the geese with my cochlear implant, I thought it was a dog fight in the parking lot ha ha!

Enjoy the sounds of nature...be thankful you can hear them!

Here in NJ, it isn't warm yet. I long to hear those sounds that come with Spring! I'm looking forward to nonstop chirpings of bird, for me it means having the ability to put your mind to something and fly with it.

And here in Seattle, it's barely 40 degrees . . . but there are some leaf sprouts on trees and some daffodils blooming. I long for warmer weather so your photos give hope! Take care, Linda

Reba Ann, I would love to see Cape May in the spring. I went last October and fell in love! Hope spring is pretty in your area, too.

Linda K, I've been to Seattle a few times and saw beautiful flowers and trees. Don't think I've been in the spring though. To me, daffodils are always the sign of spring giving birth.

As a fruit farmer in south west Michigan, spring is one of my favorite times of year both for sounds and beauty. Sometime in late April to early May depending on the weather, our peach and apple orchards are filled with blossoms on the trees. It is a great time to hear the birds as they rejoice in the warmth of spring as well. If I go up close to an apple tree, I can often hear the bees "buzzing". I love the sound of softly falling rain. Hearing crickets in the summer is a great way to put a smile on my face. In the fall, it is always enjoyable to hear the geese calling to each other as they head south in large formations. I love walking on the crunchy leaves that have fallen to the ground in the fall. In the winter, it is great to hear my footsteps on crunchy snow. During my 11 1/2 years of deafness prior to my first ci, oh how I missed the everyday sounds of life! Yes, hearing the sounds of nature all year round is a wonderful blessing that my cochlear implants give me! with double ci joy, Margo

Spring has sprung in Landrum, S.C. After rain Thursday- Sat. We had bright sunshine. Peach trees are blooming, dogwoods are beginning to open.Pear trees in our yard have already shed their blooms. On a warm day we had last wk,I just left everything & walked out onto porch & sat in rocking chair for awhile. I was amazed, I don't think we really take time to just sit, relax & enjoy the sounds outside. It was a first for me, hearing our flag on flagpole flapping in the breeze, birds chirping, dogs barking & cars passing by.

Sheila, my wife and our 6 kids have enjoyed the Atlanta area since moving here 12 years ago. I found a question you posted some time ago to Linn and wanted to get a respone. I am new to this community so I figuring my way around the site. Below is what I commented to your question to Linn sometime ago: Sheila, did you purchase the Beetle H2ST silhouette & neckloop that Linn likes for your Blackberry? If so, how well does it work? Can you use it on M and T settings? What blackberry model do you use? I am in Atlanta and had a CI implant 9-08. I use Tmobile service(although can switch). I have an old phone. I need a phone for calls and emails. When I test at the store any of the data phones in Tcoil mode there is to much noise. Plus, I prefer a MT mode. So, I need a great phone with data service and a great handsfree system. The handsfree images look like you have to wear a piece around the ear. Not enough room for both processor and handless piece? I look at all the sites that Linn lists for bluetooth and neckloop and get frustrated sice you can not test them. I am deaf in the left ear and Freedom in right. I could hear fine in both until 1997 when I lost left and then lost right in May 2008. Thanks for any help you can pass my way.
