I wonder sometimes if others love music the way I do. I carried musical memories in my auditory memory for about 25 years. I remember trying to hum a song I had known when I was a teenager and wondered if that really was the way it really sounded.

I sang in the church choir, school choir, community choir, played clarinet and piano. I went to every school dance and prom. Then my son became a musician, and I learned to love guitar music. He has a vintage collection, and my favorite is his acoustical guitar. We talk about music and famous artists he works with in Hollywood, and he knows all my high school favorite songs! He reminded me that HIS music is now classic rock, so I told him MY music must be antique rock ha ha!

I listen to music on my iPod Shuffle as I commute by bus to work and then plug in my iPod 5G video to a speaker on my desk to sing along as I work (hope nobody hears me). I sing to my cats at home, and I think they like it because when I hit the high notes their radar ears turn out and then downward! I get in bed at night and turn to my childhood favorites in the Baptist Hymnal (bought it at amazon.com).

Can you tell how much music is a part of my heart and soul?

Here's a funny one I posted on my Facebook page tonight. There are several great Sesame Street songs on YouTube. ENJOY!!

I too am a music lover....and the possibilities of getting to enjoy it again is so appealing. :) Im trying not to get my hopes up too high. I want realistic expectations if I do this thing! :) My surgeon....even said...Music is still a problem....HIGH noise situations are still a problem. I know him to be an expert/renown in his field so I think he's just trying to be honest and forthright which I am grateful for! I told him to get out the crystal ball so I could KNOW I'd have significant improvement..LOL. Of course, my concern is just word recognition in various situations....music...well...significant improvement...will be pure icing on the cake. I love to dance! As long as I can hear the rhythm...surely I cant still do that! ;)

Joyce, I am excited along with you at the possibilities of hearing things you've been missing!!! I still get emotional when I tell people about my implant and the things I can hear. You're gonna do terrific, girl! Just keep listening and it gradually gets clearer...practice, practice, practice. Music + cochlear implant = wild, sporadic bursts of dancing in the shower, elevator, and anywhere there is a mirror ha ha!
