Sheila & the Porsche

No, no! I didn't sell all my belongings and buy a Porsche. Heck, there would be no profit from that kind of sale to even make ONE monthly payment on such a car!!

Last Friday I had to drive to work instead of taking the bus because I was going to a movie with a friend after work. As I exited the interstate and pulled up to the first traffic light, I glanced to my left and saw a shiny black Porsche Carrera with the top down which happened to be driven by a nice Italian Stallion looking dude!

Without hesitation, I pushed the button to lower my window and said, "Hey, you wanna swap?" He looked my way and said, "What??" I repeated using hand gestures to signal swapping, "You wanna swap cars?" He just laughed. I said, "It's beautiful." He humbly smiled and said, "Thank you."

The light turned green, and we both drove side-by-side for three more blocks. He turned left while I turned right, and we lived happily everafter...separately <sigh>.

Then it dawned on me that when I wore hearing aids (for 30 long yrs.) I would always avoid eye contact regardless of whether I was in the car, department store, restaurant, or an elevator at work. I was so afraid someone would speak to me, and I would not understand the words. It was like being paranoid or something. I would worry that I would misinterpret what they said and realize it when their expression would change. Ugh!!

So...thanks to my cochlear implants I got my mojo back, and I'm an extrovert again. I got to flirt with a Porsche! Actually, I believe I would rather have the Porsche than the guy Cool

Sheila-Yes, life is definitely fun, more interesting and our cochlear implants help us to take more communication risks. Pretty cool and allows one to feel more confident and independent! with double ci joy, Margo

Margo, I test myself in the courthouse elevator and listen to folks without reading their lips. I get most of what they are saying to each other. If someone speaks directly to me, I'm very confident now and speak back.
