I am an early recipient of the Nucleus 5. My surgery was on September 9, 2009 and ever since the CI was activated three weeks later my hearing experience has been nothing less then miraculous.
I am 57 and have had a progressive hearing loss (cause unknown) for the past 29 years. For most of those years hearing aids ( first in the ear and then BTE ) allowed me to be part of the hearing world. A year ago I could no longer understand speech unless I could see the person's lips and even then it was a struggle. I began to feel more and more isolated even when I was with my family around the kitchen table.
When my audiologist suggested a CI in May,2009 I wasted no time in finding out if I was a candidate and had the surgery as soon as possible. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. My Nucleus 5 reconnected me to life and enabled me to hear things I hadn't heard in many years.
I did so well with my first CI that in February, 2010 I was implanted with my second Nucleus 5 and became bilateral. My hearing experiences just keep getting better and better.
