I suddenly lost my hearing ( about half) when I was 16 yrs old. I saw Dr. House about cochlear implant then and was not a candidate. Over the years I gradually lost the rest of my hearing and had a severe/profound loss in both ears.
At the urging of two close friends ( both cochlear recipients) I looked into implant again at 36 yrs of age.
On May 11th 2009 ( the day after Mothers day) I had my cochlear implant on my Right ear.
On June 18th 2009 I was activated ( The day AFTER my 37th Bday) .. and feel truly blessed and amazed!!!!
That night I couldnt believe hearing my kids and husband. Then the sound of water and clinking of spoons etc all sounding the way I remembered them!
Its only been a few months but I am having full telephone conversations with family and friends!!!
I am LOVING the sounds and how clear and natural things are again.
March 29th 2010 I had my Left implant done .( N5).. I cant wait for "Surround sound"!
Activation is set f or April 20th!
