The more I see here, the more excited I get about getting mine... I am two weeks away from surgery & already get emotional thinking of hearing so much better again...hearing my kids when they talk to me the first time instead of me asking them to repeat themselves over & over....I can't imagine how emotional I will be when I actually get the device!!!

I love my BAHA! Yesterday I plugged up my right ear and put my cell phone which has a music player over to the left side and I could hear it! I teared up again... I like showing people and telling them about my BAHA. I can pop it off and on pretty much without trouble. I just love it!

Got my BAHAon Tuesday amonth ago and immediatel left for Iowa and Illinois to see children and grandchildren -- talk about learning on your own.
I find I have to be very very very careful when crossing streets or walking in crowds ... all the sound is actually heard via my right ear... but that is not the side of the source of the sound all the time.
i find i have to often adjust the volume ... depending on the background noise ... and the voice of the person who is talking on my left.
sometimes i find myself able to hear conversations occurring about 8 ft.away.
the worseproblem i have is putting the dratted thing on!! rarely have I found the pin and gotten it on quickly.

Melony, congrats!!! It's great, isn't it? I remember the day I got mine; I cried, too. I hear things I haven't heard in 22 years! I've had mine for about a year and a half; can't imagine life without it!

Melony,

I remember when I received my BAHA. After leaving the doctor's office I sat in my car, turned on my CD player and listened to music. I also began to cry and was overwhelmed with emotion at the experience of being able to hear once again out of the ear I lost over 13 years ago.

Congratulations and let us know how it goes for you.

If you're not hearing speech well enough with the Baha, you should make sure that the volume is high enough. If it's not, please return to your surgeon, where they can increase the intensity of the sound on the Divino or you may require a different processor that has more power.

Just reveived my BAHA Intenso after finding the Divino was not powerful enough for me. I can now really hear everything I have been missing without having to turn up the BAHA all the way.

I received my Divino on June 17th and I am disappointed I am not hearing as well as I thought I would on reading the post from dlute, I am having the same problems that he was. It is the speech recognition, I still am asking my wife what was said. Medicare paid for my Divino, do you know who if anyone will pay for it to be switched to the Intenso?

I went back to the audiologist's office for testing to see how well I am adjusting to the BAHA. I currently have the BAHA Divino model and it turns out the Divino has a 20db attenuation between the omni and direction microphone settings. I can hear find, plus all of the background noise, in the omnidirectional setting. In the directional setting it is not powerful enough for speech recognition in a noisy environment.

Given this situation my Divino is being replace with an Intenso. I had audiology booth testing with the Intenso and it improve my speech recognition tremendously and it did not have the 20 db attenuation between the two microphone settings.

If you are still having problems with your Divino, you may need to be bumped up to the Intenso model like myself.

I received by BAHA on May 8th and it does make a difference. I have SSD and really notice the power of the BAHA when I lay on my good ear. For me, I have found it to be a more subtle change, but I'm not cupping my ear, turning my head, or trying to go to the left side of people when I walk next to them (I'm deaf in my left ear). It's easier to hear people at work too.

I expected more when it comes to sitting next to someone at the dinner table and find that if I really want to hear them without turning my head, I have to turn up the volume to max. You just have to deal with feedback if you touch it. The volume control takes a little getting used to, but I adjust it depending on my environment. I turn it off when driving as the device is next to the window. I've trained myself to turn it on once I reach my destination.

I don't even know I have it on and will reach up and touch it just to make sure it's still there. $3,500 is the replacement cost!! I've also gotten past worrying that my hair is covering it. I look at it this way, it's better than having two bulky "over the ear" hearing aids. I've decided to keep my hair a little shorter and not have the "Albert Einstein" look! I find people to be genuinely interested and most are in amazement of the technology, albeit the principle is pretty basic.

As Kencutus can attest to, you have to be careful when working around the house, etc. I have bumped my processor against the car trunk and other places when doing projects. I have even knocked it off a few times. I think, depending on the situation, it's best to take it off. My audiologist said NEVER wear when mowing the lawn and working in noisy situations.

My only disappointment is not being able to wear my NY Yankees baseball cap. Unfortunately, my implant is slightly above my ear and the rim of the cap comes down over the pin. I am investigating have my cap modified with a cut-out area to go around my processor.

Overall, it's been a great experience. I've only had it for little over a month and I'm pretty much the pro at this point.

Nucleus is not the same as BAHA. BAHA stands for "bone anchored hearing aid." BAHA is not a CI device.

Thought this would be a great place for all members to make posts once they received there Baha.

I received mine today, May 22nd. And all I can say is...WOW! It is amazing! I can hear from my left side once again. I can hear birds and all the little textural stuff I have been missing for 13 years.

If you are the least bit hesitant, I would say have courage and go for it.
