In January of 2009, I was researching for a new power BTE hearing aid. The Audi at Costco hearing aids talked me into looking into the BAHA. It took about 5 months to get the appointment with the only ENT doc in town that works with cochlear BAHA's. The Doc said I was a good candidate for bilateral BAHA's.. Insurance said No way on first try.. Then approved of the procedure after being encouraged to do so by the..... Insurance helper group (OPPS, I forgot their name).
On the day before the procedure I was told that they were only doing the BAHA on right ear. I will have to apply to do the other ear latter. So Oct 9, 2009 I had the procedure for the abutment. Dec 9th, picked up the BP 100.
Sparky and I have the same Doc., But went to different hospitals... my hospital was around $16,000. Same for the rest. My so far isn't going to be covered by insurance, but I'm working on that! I have Regence Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
Thanks Kencutus and Sparkysmurf7, that is exactly the kind of information I am looking for. It's helpful and I hope more people can answer this question. I'm considering Keiser, still researching it.

I had my surgery in Sept. of this year. Just got the bills. Hospital - $21,340.00 which includes the baha. My Surgeon - $4,300.00 Anastesiologist - ? haven't got that bill yet. I imagine around a thousand, that's what my previous bill was. Carrier was Meritain-First choice Health. Out of pocket I am paying about $3,500.00 The cost of the BAHA I think is around $6,500.00 I started the process in around April and was ready to go with all pre-auths by July. The BP100 is rockin!!! I would go through it again in a heartbeat. Worth every penny ;D
Everyone is different so I will tell my side here. I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois. It took me 4 years to win my case against the insurance company. They like to play hardball with it's clients. I finally had my first surgery almost a year ago in December. I only had to pay my co-payment of $100 to the hospital for the surgery and everything else was covered 100% (For Baha, doctor, hospital, and surgery. My second surgery was in June of this year and I have bilateral Bahas, now. It was covered 100% and still had to pay my deductible of $100. I got my insurance thru my employer where I pay $145 a month from my paychecks. So, it really depends on where you are and what's available in your area. Hope this helps and good luck in your journey.
I want to get a Baha but I do not have insurance. Please share with me your experience so I can chose a good insurance company. Who was your carrier? Did they cover the surgery? After co-pay, deductible paid, co-insurance, etc. What did you actually pay for your aid? How long was the process (in months/years), from your first Audiologist appt, referring you out to discuss the Baha, to your surgery date?
