I began having trouble in my right ear in Nov. 2006 after having an infection and vertigo problems, I wasn't even able to walk with out holding on to something for days. I began experiencing alot of muffling, fluid and ringing in my ear. After seeing a doctor almost every week I was finely able to get in to my ENT doctor. Notice a major problem with the nerve in that ear after having an audio done. During the test I could not believe what I was Hearing Charlie Brown's Teacher! I was frighten. I was told it was the nerve. Very soon after that test I had a tube placed in that ear, which my hearing was much better then it had been but within the week I had lost the hearing completely in that ear.
Spring of 2007 I was beginning to have trouble on my left side as well, it was repeating the same type of trouble I had before with the right ear. Was not hearing well at all, I decided in December 2007 to move forward to have the surgery for the BAHA (At first I was very nervous about having it done, but I wanted to hear). I received the BAHA it self in March of 2008 and have appreciated it very much.
The problem with my left ear has continued and I struggle with fluid in my ears most of the time. Last fall of 2008 it became difficult for me to hear even with the BAHA. In the beginning of December my hearing was like shorting our and one day it went completely. I was admitted in the hospital and was there for 5 days on high doses of antibiotics and prednisone, with hope to regain the nerve in that ear, which it did slowly comeback after a couple of days and continued to do so for a period of time. Which was an answer to my prayers.
I have been on an off again with steroids to cope with fluid and difficulty with hearing at times all summer long.
Now that the fall is here I seem to be struggling again(as I did last fall). The hearing in my left ear is becoming a little distorted and I am concern that I may be having trouble again with the nerve in now my left ear. We are trusting and praying that this doesn't happen, my faith and family has helped me greatly.
I also have been treated for chronic-sinus infections, resulting in 6 sinus surgeries over the years.
Wondering if there is anyone one else out there that has been having anything similar to my story?
I've been teaching art for the past 18 yrs and at times its a struggle in a classroom of children but the BAHA as made a big difference for me and I would hate to be with out it. I just wish my left ear would strengthen up so I could enjoy the full benefit of having the BAHA.
I'm married to a wonderful man for 29yrs and we've raised three amazing children, two are now married and our middle child will be getting married in April 2010. Expecting our first grandchild! She is due to arrive Nov. 1st of 2009. I can't wait to hear her small voice!
Since November I have seen and heard my precious grand-daughter!! I still have been struggling with my hearing and in January I received an hearing-aid for my only hearing side to help with the struggles of trying to hear conversations and just dealing with everyday life. Since receiving my hearing aid (along with my BAHA) it has made a world of difference for me. I was confident to fly on my own to TX and to enjoy to activities surrounding my time there.
