Hello.  My 2nd child, Sophie, was born with a severe to profound sensorineural bilateral hearing loss identified at birth.  She was fitted with hearing aids at 1 month old and then bilaterally implanted with the Nucleus 5 devices a couple of weeks after her 1st birthday on 10/22/09.  She was activated on 11/6/09 (My son's 5th birthday)!

The cause of Sophie's hearing loss is still unknown.  We had Sophie tested for the Connexin 26/30 gene but the results came back normal.  So, we still don't know.

She has come such a long way and is thriving with her CI's.  She is learning new words, literally, every day!  It's amazing to see!  She is an amazing little girl and we are so grateful for the technology available to her.
