Emma was born deaf in her Lt ear with a moderate to profound loss in her Rt. She began wearing a BTE hearing aid on the Rt at age 3. During the summer of '09 (age 6),we realized she was not responding to any noise - an ABR showed both ears now had a profound loss. Her ENT informed us she was a CI candidate and the research began. She was implanted in Oct'09 with Bilateral implants. Her ears were "turned on" Nov 2009. She is doing great and her speech is improving daily. She is doing great at recognizing sounds and voices. She has a Sign Language interpreter who works with her in her 1st grade class using Signing Exact English. All members of Team Emma are extremely happy.
