I was diagnosed with an Acoustic Neuroma in April 2007 - at the age of 45 1/2 - and had surgery to remove it on May 31st of that same year. The surgery was performed at Hinsdale Hospital by Dr. Robert Battista (neurotologist) @ the Ear Institute of Chicago and Dr. Robert Kazan (neurosurgeon). My tumor was wrapped around my hearing nerve and in order to remove it completely the nerve was destroyed, which left me SSD in my left ear.
I tried the BAHA demo 4 months post op and absolutely loved it. I couldn't wait for the implant surgery. I sent a request to my insurance company for coverage and after losing my first request - and then ignoring my second - they agreed to cover the cost of my surgery and my Divino. The day I got insurance approval I felt like I won the lottery! Although I knew I was miserable being SSD, I had no idea how depressed I was until that day. By now it was 9 months after my AN surgery.
I had my BAHA implant on March 4, 2008 and started wearing my Divino exactly 3 months later.
I am totally enamored with my Divino and just placed an order through my neurotologist's office for the BP100. It's due to arrive in a few weeks and I am anxious to start wearing it.
I also ordered a MP3 adapter for my BP100. I've heard excellent things about it and can't wait to try it out.
